PROJECT DESCRIPTION / PROJE TANIMI
During the second part of the semester, students focused on the design of an excavation house in Tekin village (Germencik/Aydın) for the archaeological site of Magnesia on the Maeander. An excavation house is the place where the permanent team works and leaves, occupying the place year-round while relying on the help of exterior people (villagers, students, interns, guests and seasonal archaeologists) to conduct excavation and research. These people should be weşcomed and hosted during different periods and in different conditions. Moreover, while the excavation finds must be safely stored and properly researched, the excavation house is also a public building, and its image represents the work made by the team.
Working in a historical context and a rural area, and working on a program linking publicity and private usages forced the students to exploit their site analyses to produce a consistent architectural design idea based both on occupation and usage of the building and concepts linked to history and context. Additionally, the diversity of usages and spaces was used to make students improve their spatial design and room ergonomics, working on different usage programs, spatial sequences and room organisations.
The works presented here show some of the best solutions found by students to increase the visibility of the place while preserving privacy, comfort and ease of use.

The design centers on two existing pine trees, using them as primary spatial and conceptual reference points. These trees function as spatial separators, establishing a clear hierarchy between functions. The working areas and shared social spaces are oriented toward the central courtyard to foster interaction, while the dormitories are positioned along the quiet outer edges of the site. This arrangement naturally balances social vibrancy at the center with the necessary privacy and silence required for the sleeping quarters.
